90-ACRE BRUSHFIRE IN NEARBY WHITEWATER YESTERDAY

A 90-acre brush fire burned near Whitewater Canyon yesterday. The fire was first reported at 2:16 Tuesday afternoon near the windmills at Whitewater Canyon Road and Gorgonio View. Smoke from the fire was seen here in the Morongo Basin. Two air tankers, one helicopter, and 150 firefighters from CalFire, Riverside County Fire Department, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service were able to fully contain the fire by 7 p.m. No structures were threatened and no residents had to evacuate. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
