A Republican candidate running for a seat in the 8th Congressional district—which includes the Morongo Basin—has repeatedly compared student survivors from the shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school to Adolf Hitler. CNN reported last week that a review of tweets and Facebook posts from Tim Donnelly, a former California assemblyman, singled out David Hogg for abuse, and that Donnelly repeatedly made false claims that Hogg was not at the school at the time of the shooting, when he actually was. Donnelly claims that Hogg is a #FakeParklandSurvivor, a claim that has repeatedly been shown to be false. Donnelly is challenging Representative Paul Cook of Yucca Valley for the 8th district seat. In the 2016 primary election, Donnelly came in third on the ballot, missing out in being in the top two for the November election.
"I wonder if the #MarchForOurLives tools know how Hitlerian they look and sound. #pawns #tools #Leftists #NRA #2a #HoggWash #HoggPack," Donnelly tweeted on March 24, with a screen grab of Hogg speaking at the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, DC.
