84TH ANNUAL TWENTYNINE PALMS PIONEER DAYS CELEBRATED WITH TRIBUTE FILM

For 84 years, Pioneer Days has been a major celebration for the community of Twentynine Palms. But 2020 is so very different thanks to COVID-19, but this year’s event will be mostly comprised of a remembrance video and the organizers need your help. Reporter Heather Clisby has more details …

The City of Twentynine Palms’ 84th Annual Pioneer Days is still happening, sort of. No parade but there will be a compilation video recalling Pioneer Days pre-coronavirus. The Pioneer Days organizers are asking the public to contribute by sharing their own photos, videos and news clippings from the first 83 Pioneer Days. Submissions must be emailed by September 30 to Community Events Coordinator Christina Benton: [email protected].

The resulting tribute film, “Rediscovering Our Pioneer Past,” will be available for viewing on the city’s website, 29palms.org, October 15-18. The Grand Marshal will be Frank Buckley, award-winning KTLA news anchor and alumnus of Twentynine Palms High School.
