83RD ANNUAL PIONEER DAYS CELEBRATION: SATURDAY AND SUNDAY EVENTS

The 83rd Annual pioneer days celebration in Twentynine Palms promises carnival rides, food, music, and non-stop family fun. Reporter Andrew Dieleman picks up the story with the Saturday and Sunday schedule of events…

Saturday, October 19, the 83rd annual Pioneer Days celebration will continue with the firefighters’ pancake breakfast at the Twentynine Palms Station #44 from 7 to 10 a.m. for a $5 donation at the door. Proceeds benefit the local Fire Explorer Post #121. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Twentynine Palms Highway at Split Rock avenue and travels north onto Adobe Road and concludes at Sun Valley Drive. The Old Timers gathering will take place at 1 p.m. at the Old School House Museum; Children’s Day activities, carnival, beer garden, and live band start at noon at Luckie Park. At 3 p.m., the Pioneer Days arm wrestling contest will begin. There is a $10 entrance fee donation, which will benefit the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat softball team. At 5 p.m., the Twentynine Palms Art Gallery will host a chili dinner with salad, corn bread, garlic bread, dessert, coffee, a no-host wine bar, and live music. Tickets are $15 for individuals, $28 for couples and $10 for kids under 12 years old. The art gallery gift shop will also be open. Finally, at 7 p.m., Dean Kalogris will perform on stage at Luckie Park and the Sky’s The Limit will host a star party at the observatory on Utah Trail.

On Sunday, October 20, The Twentynine Palms Ministerial Association will host a sunrise service at 6 a.m. with a bonfire, biscuits and gravy, and coffee behind the Community Services Building, 74325 Joe Davis Drive. At 9 a.m., the pet parade, hosted by the Palms N Paws Animal Shelter, will be held at the Rotary Shelter in Luckie Park. The carnival will be open from noon to 10 p.m. A gospel concert will take the main stage at Luckie Park at noon.  At 1 p.m., the Twentynine Palms Kiwanis Club will host a Lego challenge at the Rotary Shelter in Luckie Park.
