81-year-old Joshua Tree man struck and killed by car

A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed on Twentynine Palms Highway this weekend.

At around 5 a.m. on Saturday (March 4), an 81 year old man from Joshua Tree was walking westbound in the eastbound right lane on Twentynine Palms Highway near White Feather Road, when he was hit by a Chevrolet Avalanche driving eastbound on the highway.

The Chevrolet was driven by a 43 year-old man from Twentynine Palms, who stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the investigation. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and the release of his identity is pending notification of next of kin.

The crash is still under investigation, though alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor.
