The City of Twentynine Palms may soon be getting a bigger playground. Reporter David Haldane explains…
Twentynine Palms will have more ground in which to stomp, should a new federal bill get past the House and Senate.
The Desert Community Lands Act, which just got out of the House Natural Resources Committee, would convey 80 acres adjacent to the Twentynine Palms Motorsports Arena from the Bureau of Land Management to the city.
Consisting entirely of open desert, the land would allow events now held at the arena to expand, according to City Manager Frank Luckino. That, he added, will equal more people in town camping out, staying at hotels, buying gas and eating food. “They’ll be bringing money into the city,” Luckino said.
