7,000 harassing phone calls to County Sheriff leads to Rialto man’s arrest

A man was arrested for suspicion of making more than 7,000 harassing calls to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s emergency number.

On July 22, County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Luke Dumas, a 48 year-old resident of Rialto, for making the phone calls, which Deputies described as “annoying, harassing, and preventing staff from attending to other legitimate emergency calls.”

Luke Dumas was arrested for investigation into Annoying and Harassing Calls to Emergency Lines, Public Nuisance, Interfering with Emergency Services, Resisting and Delaying an Officer, and Reckless Driving, and booked into the West Valley Detention Center, and has been released on bail.

Investigators believed Dumas may be connected to additional harassing and annoying calls to emergency services throughout the Inland Empire. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact Detective A. Hylin at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters, at (909) 387-3727.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reminds everyone that their emergency phone systems are to be used in cases of emergency only, and abuse of any phone systems will be taken seriously as it prohibits law enforcement from performing their duties.
