7-HOUR STANDOFF IN WONDER VALLEY ENDS IN ARREST

A 22-year-old man armed with a kitchen knife was arrested following a seven-hour standoff in Wonder Valley Friday. Deputies were called to the 6800 block of Gopher Grove Lane in Wonder Valley just after 5 p.m. Friday by a 9-1-1 caller who said Noah Smith had tried to stab his father and then vandalized multiple items inside the house. When deputies arrived, Noah Smith barricaded himself inside the house and refused to come out. Smith continued to break furniture, windows, and other items inside the house, causing damage estimated at between $3,000 to $5,000. Deputies called in the SWAT team for assistance, and Noah Smith eventually surrendered about 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Noah Smith was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism, booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000.
