Joshua Tree is about to get a new mental health facility. Reporter David Haldane has more…
At Sunny Vista Road on Highway 62.
That’s the location of Joshua Tree’s soon-to-be-constructed crisis residential treatment facility, according to a report presented at last night’s packed meeting of the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council.
The 10-bed, 11,000-square-foot facility is expected to provide up to 90 days of treatment for mentally ill patients who now must travel nearly 70 miles for such services. Dena Fuentes, San Bernardino County’s Director of Community Development and Housing who presented the report, said the treatment facility will satisfy a critical community need, a sentiment seemingly shared by most of those in attendance.
Paid for mostly from a state grant, construction of the $5.6 million facility is expected to begin next March and last a year.
