For the third time in six months, a Morongo Basin Ambulance was involved in a crash that can be blamed on the other driver. MBA Operations Chief Matt Welsch said that four people received minor injuries when a car rear-ended the ambulance on its way to the hospital Saturday evening.
About 7:15 p.m. Saturday, the ambulance, which was not traveling with lights and sirens, was transporting a patient from Hi-Desert Medical Center to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs; as it pulled away from the stop sign at the intersection of North Indian Canyon and Pierson Boulevard in Desert Hot Springs, the driver of a car traveling behind it didn’t notice the stop sign and plowed into the rear of the ambulance.
The male emergency medical technician driving the ambulance, the female paramedic in the back, and the male patient, as well as the male driver of the car, all received minor injuries and were treated at Desert Hospital. Desert Hot Springs Police are investigating the crash. Welsch reminds residents to buckle up, drive safely, and follow posted speed limits and other traffic laws.
