Third Battalion, 4th Marines, “The Thundering Third,” will deactivate during a ceremony aboard the Combat Center held at Lance Cpl. Torrey L. Grey Field, May 30. Since its initial inception in 1925, this is the unit’s 6th period of activation. Since its reactivation in 1994, 3/4 served on seven combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom to include its most recent seven-month deployment to Afghanistan, from which they returned October 2013.
