The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Basic Academy has suspended its in-person training program after 34 of the trainees tested positive last week for COVID-19. Spokeswoman Jodi Miller said two trainees with symptoms were tested for COVID-19 June 8, and one test came back positive. The Sheriff’s Department then immediately tested all 160 trainees. All of the trainees who tested positive for the virus are being monitored by medical staff; most of them show mild or no symptoms. The trainees receive daily temperature checks and are required to wear masks while at the training center in Devore. The Basic Academy will hold at least two weeks of remote/distance-based learning to allow the trainees to self-quarantine.
