31 TEAMS IN 55TH ANNUAL BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNEY IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

This weekend, the City of Twentynine Palms Recreation Department will be hosting the 55th Annual Boy’s Basketball Tournament. Thirty-one teams from throughout Southern California and Arizona will
compete for the championship trophies in four age divisions. Local teams start the action Friday night at Twentynine Palms Junior High School. At 6:30 p.m. is the third and fourth grade division game, Twentynine Palms versus Yucca Valley; at 7:30 p.m., fifth and sixth grade division games, Twentynine Palms versus Yucca Valley. At the Twentynine Palms High School at 6:30 p.m. is the eighth grade division game, Yucca Valley versus Beaumont; at 7:30 p.m., Twentynine Palms versus Cali’s finest.
Saturday morning, the last local team’s first round game is at Twentynine Palms High School at 8:00 a.m.: the seventh grade division Twentynine Palms versus Yucca Valley.
Complete schedules for the entire weekend are available on the City’s web site and posted in the gyms. Twentynine Palms High School, Twentynine Palms Junior High School and the Bell Center at Copper Mountain College will see nonĀ­stop action from 8 a.m. until
9 p.m. on Saturday, and Sunday from 9 a.m. until the awards ceremony take place at 3 p.m. at Twentynine Palms High School. After awards for first, second, and third place are presented, the John Bass Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the player that shows the most sportsmanship during the tournament and the 48th Hugh “Chief’ Jones Trophy will be awarded to a Twentynine Palms 8th grader that has earned the award in school, sports, community and overall character.
