3 TWENTYNINE PALMS OFF-ROAD RIDERS ELECTROCUTED BY A DOWNED POWER LINE

Three men were sent to area hospitals Saturday morning after they drove their off-road vehicles into a downed power line in Twentynine Palms. The men, two of whom were riding dirt bikes and one who was riding a quad, were on an unpaved section of Desert Knoll Avenue near Condor Avenue and Valle Vista about 9:30 a.m. when they came in contact with a power line that had fallen across the road. When rescue personnel from Twentynine Palms Fire, the Combat Center, and the Sheriff’s Department arrived, the men were walking toward Condor Road. One man suffered lacerations to his neck; he was transported by ground ambulance to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The other two victims—one of whom had electrocution burns—were flown by Mercy Air to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Condor Road was shut down for a short time until the men were airlifted out.
