Three hikers from Palm Desert, including a child, had to call for help after getting lost in Big Morongo Canyon Preserve Monday (June 21). According to Sheriff’s reports, the hikers called 911 around 1:45 p.m. saying that they had just run out of water while hiking. The hiker said the group had gotten turned around and did not know which direction they were hiking. Medical personnel were dispatched to the location of the hiker’s vehicle. The hikers were located safe by first responders around 3:30 p.m. All three hikers refused medical assistance.
No matter where you hike the during the summer, it is recommended you always bring more water than you think you’ll need and avoid hiking during peek heat periods when possible.
