A moderate earthquake shook our desert region Sunday afternoon. The 3.9 magnitude temblor, which hit at 5:46 p.m., was centered just inside Joshua Tree National Park, about 21 miles west of Twentynine Palms and 20 miles west of Yucca Valley. The epicenter was more than eight miles north-northeast of Thousand Palms, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It had a reported depth of nearly five miles. The short, sharp, temblor was felt locally with numerous reports from the Morongo Basin Communities and throughout a large swath of Southern California from San Diego to Montclair, according to the USGS’s website. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
