The Twentynine Palms Water District was expected to hear public comment on, receive and file a report from the county’s Local Agency Formation Comission, known as LAFCO, at their regular meeting last night, but instead tabled the issue.
LAFCO is the government body in charge of authorizing and overseeing local government agencies. The final draft of LAFCO’s report, currently available at the water district’s website, 29palms.com, makes no recommendations, but indicates that there is a strong case for consolidating the Twentynine Palms City Council, the Twentynine Palms Water District, and the Twentynine Palms Cemetery District, in the interest of increasing efficiency relating to the City’s development of wastewater treatment and sewer programs and increasing community engagement.
The report indicates that each of the currently agencies are currently being well run, and also provides a case for the continued collaboration between the three independent agencies.
The Twentynine Palms Water District Board of Directors decided at last night’s meeting to table discussion and receiving of the LAFCO report until their next regular meeting, currently scheduled for November 16.
