Twentynine Palms man arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife

A twenty-three year old Twentynine Palms man was arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife, who he took in for treatment at a Joshua Tree hospital.

On Sunday morning (January 5) at around 1:30 a.m., San Bernadino County Sheriff’s deputies say they responded to the Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree for a report of a woman in the emergency room with severe injuries. Deputies say that the woman was identified as 21 year-old Twentynine Palms resident Savannah Encke and was brought in to the hospital by her husband, who they identified as Carlos Zamudio, a 23 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms. Deputies say that Zamudio had injuries on his face.

Encke was pronounced dead at the hospital. Detectives with the Sheriff’s homicide detail took over the investigation, and they say that Zamudio was responsible for Encke’s death. Detectives arrested him at the hospital.

Carlos Zamudio was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
