29 Palms Ladycats Volleyball Have Strong Showing at Coachella despite losses

The Twentynine Palms Highschool Ladycats volleyball teams traveled to Coachella Valley last night (October 5) to take on the Mighty Arabs. Junior Varsity lost in two, 17-25 and 9-25. Anisa Youso had 2 kills. Liyah Pride had 1 ace serve, 1 kill and 2 assists.

In Varsity action, the ‘cats came out strong the first game winning the first set 27-25, but couldn’t find the groove in the second and third sets dropping them 12-25 and 6-25. The groove returned for the fourth set but they still came up short 21-25. Senior Gabby Wunderlee and Junior Kyla Palpallatoc led the team in kills with 8 each. Kyla also had 15 digs and the only solo block for the night.

Sophomore Lindie Stewart had 5 kills. Senior Lexi Hanson played solid defense with 11 digs for the cats. Sophomore Jenica Silvas played strong defense with 17 digs, had one kill and 18 assists for the night. Head Coach Melissa McGivern said, “Continue to fight and work hard ladies.”

The Ladycats are now 7-5 in league and host the Rams from Desert Mirage on Monday (October 10) and the Trojans from Yucca Valley High School on Tuesday (October 11).

The cats are on the hunt for a 3rd place finish and a spot in playoffs.
