Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians and Joshua Tree National Park continue collaboration – signing tomorrow 12/8

There will be a signing ceremony taking place tomorrow between the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians and the Joshua Tree National Park.

Reflecting the need for enhanced community and tourist services amid the area’s improving business environment, the agreement expands upon a 2020 letter of collaboration regarding the Tribe’s homelands and strengthens the park’s ongoing commitment to the shared stewardship of land and resources.

This agreement will be the first of its kind between the National Park and an associated Tribe.

The agreement will mutually benefit beneficial projects like joint collaboration on trails that span reservation and federal lands – an initiative started in 2018 that has resulted in a conservation grant awarded to the Tribe in 2021, representing a significant step focused on the feasibility of interconnected trails. The new agreement expands upon this initiative – for the Tribe, it provides experience and assistance in creating trails; for Joshua Tree National Park, it helps meet the agency’s goal of stewardship and service for tribal residents, the local community, and visitors.

The signing takes place this Thursday, December 8th at 1PM at Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella.
