For orchid fans, it’s that long-awaited time of year when the Sunset Rotary and the Gubler family host the annual Morongo Basin Orchid Festival. Reporter Heather Clisby has details …
Skipping 2020 due to the pandemic, the Morongo Basin Orchid Festival returns to celebrate its’ 25th year on October 2 and 3. Hosted by Sunset Rotary and the Gubler family, thousands of orchids will be on display at the Gubler Nursery, 2200 Belfield Blvd. in Landers.
During the festival, the Riverside San Bernardino Orchid Society will host the 3rd annual American Orchid Society, a judged orchid show. The Orchid Society of Arizona will host the hands-on orchid-growing “how-to” classes. Floral arrangement classes will also be conducted by the Riverside San Bernardino Society.
Joshua Tree Brewery is partnering with Yucca Valley Sunset Rotary to bring back Shari Baby Beer which will be sold in a commemorative 25th Orchid Festival pint glass. (Commemorative 25th Orchid Festival wine glasses will also be available.)
The 760 Coffee Company will be selling coffee and lunch offerings will include Bruce’s Place BBQ, plus hamburgers, hot dogs and carne asada nachos.
The Orchid Festival will showcase fifteen local community non-profits that will attend the festival to provide info and volunteer opportunities. The Gubler Family donates over 90 percent of all the orchid sales to these organizations, along with the food/beverage sales.
