24 FILMS, DISCUSSIONS PLANNED AS PART OF 29 PALMS MILITARY FILM FESTIVAL

The 29 Palms Military Film Festival announced the film and documentary lineup for its inaugural edition to take place from this Friday through Sunday May 13 through 15, in Twentynine Palms. The lineup features 24 films and documentaries consisting of studio and independent movies telling heart-thumping and larger-than-life war stories. Selected screenings will also highlight Veterans who will share their recollections of pivotal moments during the Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. The 24 films are presented on huge screens on two indoor and two outdoor theatre venues located in Twentynine Palms, The Smith Ranch’s Drive-In Theater will provide a traditional drive-in experience. Smith’s Ranch Drive-In will deliver a unique open-air theater experience at Knott Sky Park and indoor screenings at the Smith’s Ranch Auditorium and at the Twentynine Palms Junior High School. The festival will open Friday 5 p.m. at the 29 Palms Inn with a special tribute to the fall of Saigon Marines. The program will include some of the best war movies ever produced including two stunning and original documentaries. Sidebar events include three panel discussions to feature Hollywood producers, agents and screenplay writers. A morning talk, hosted by Gary Daigneault, will focus on compelling war stories as a source of inspiration for filmmakers Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the 29 Palms Inn. An afternoon discussion, also hosted by Daigneault, will revisit Hollywood’s ambiguous relationships with the Vietnam War Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. also at the 29 Palms Inn. Five shortlisted authors will present their screenplays to a panel of industry professionals attending the festival Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the 29 Palms Inn The sidebar events will only be open to VIP festival pass holders. Individual and family festival passes are respectively priced at $25 and $40, VIP festival passes are priced at $70. Festival passes can be purchased in advance at the 29 Palms Chamber of Commerce.
