2015 “FAMILY OF THE YEAR” NAMED BY TWENTYNINE PALMS KIWANIS

A local family, active in the community, was named 2015 Family of the Year by the Twentynine Palms Kiwanis Club. Kiwanis president Kurt Schauppner said the Grimes family—Bernie and Christina, and their sons Chase, Heath, and Torin—are active in Boy Scouts and home schooling. Bernie was a Marine for 25 years, starting in the enlisted ranks, and retiring as an officer in 2006. He currently works for the Marine Corps’ Communications and Electronics Schools. Christina was a classroom teacher before deciding to stay home and home school her children. She organizes weekly field trips for the home school group. She is also the assistant scout leader for Boy Scout Troop 72. Chase, 16, recently earned his Eagle Scout award with Troop 72. Chase and Heath, 12, volunteer at the Twentynine Palms library. All three boys play sports as well as musical instruments. Congratulations to the Grimes family, the Kiwanis 2015 Family of the Year.
