2-YEAR-OLD FOUND WANDERING IN DESERT; MOTHER ARRESTED
A Yucca Valley woman was arrested Tuesday after her 2-year-old son was found wandering alone in the desert. About 3:40 Tuesday afternoon, a woman found the child wandering in the middle of the road near the intersection of Deer Trail and Tanager Road in Flamingo Heights. The woman was unable to locate the child’s parents, and the boy wouldn’t, or couldn’t, tell her his name, so she took him to her home in the 1500 block of Inca Trail and called police. After an investigation, the deputy determined the boy’s mother was Dawndra Klausing, 20, of the 1600 block of Deer Trail. The deputy’s report states that Klausing was sleeping when her son opened the door and wandered away. According to Klausing’s neighbors, the boy had been escaping every day for about two weeks. The deputy also determined that Klausing appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Dawndra Klausing was arrested for investigation of felony child endangerment, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with her bail set at $100,000. Child Protective Services took custody of her son.
