2 STABBED, 1 KILLED IN JOSHUA TREE; SUSPECT SHOT AND KILLED BY DEPUTIES

We have early information about a homicide in Joshua Tree Sunday afternoon. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at the Valero Gas station at in the 61700 block of 29 Palms Highway in Joshua Tree at 1:03 p.m. Sunday. The investigation determined two adult males were stabbed at the gas station, one fatally and the other with a non-life threatening injury. Sheriff’s Captain Lucas Niles said a short time later, Morongo Basin deputies—with support from a sheriff’s helicopter—located the adult male suspect they believe was responsible for the stabbings. When deputies tried to take this man into custody he was shot and killed in a fatal officer-involved shooting. Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots about 7 p.m. The Sheriff’s Homicide Division is investigating both incidents. Z107.7 will update this story when more information is available.
