184-acre solar project in Twentynine Palms headed to Planning Commission and City Council

The Environmental Review for a planned solar project in Twentynine Palms is soon heading to city officials. The project is proposed by developer E Group PS Solar for 184-acres north of Two Mile Road. Assembly Bill 205 was passed in 2022 and enabled developers to bypass local laws citing an “urgent need” for alternative energies.

On last week’s episode of the Z107.7 Up Close Show, host Gary Daigneault spoke with Twentynine Palms Mayor Dan Mintz and City Manager Dr. Stone James. They discussed the project’s current status and near future. You can listen to the full conversation here:

Mayor Dan Mintz said that the city is already done with their environmental review, and “the project should come before the Planning Commission sometime in February and then possibly come to the council sometime in March or April.”

Some Morongo Basin residents have opposed the project, citing environmental concerns and diminished property values for neighboring homes.
