A 13-year-old boy is in the hospital after an accident involving an off-road motorcycle and a Jeep. At about 6 p.m. Monday (April 12), Sheriff deputies responded to a traffic collision on the 5400 block of Encelia Avenue in Twentynine Palms where the boy was riding his off-road motorcycle. Deputies discovered that the boy attempted to pass a 2019 Jeep as it was making a right-hand turn when the collision occurred. The boy was first transported to Desert Regional Medical Center and then the intensive care unit at Loma Linda for treatment of his injuries. According to family members, the boy suffered internal bleeding, a fractured skull, and broken facial bones and is recovering from surgery in the ICU. The Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the incident but does not suspect DUI to be a factor.
