A fatal collision on Saturday (January 8) afternoon in Twentynine Palms has devastated a family. According to a Sheriff’s Department press release, deputies responded to the intersection of Desert Knoll Avenue and Twentynine Palms Highway just before 4 p.m. for a report of a major traffic collision. Additional information related to the call mentioned a female passenger was trapped under one of the vehicles. Bystanders nearby ran to help and managed to lift the car and render medical aid. First responders arrived and transported an injured 11-year-old female passenger to High Desert Medical Center where she was then flown via Mercy Air Helicopter to Loma Linda Medical Center in critical condition. The mother of the girl, who has no family or friends in the area, was driven to and from the hospital by deputies so she could be with her daughter. The 11-year-old daughter succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at Loma Linda University Medical Center. The identity of the family has not been released.
