A year after a crash that killed two teenagers in Morongo Valley, the California Highway Patrol is still conducting its investigation. About 10:30 p.m. on June 12, 2019, Nicole Packer is suspected of driving her Ford Fiesta on Highway 62 while under the influence of alcohol and crashing at a high rate of speed into a Toyota Prius that was making a left-hand turn into the Circle K. Hart Campbell, 14, and Ruby Campbell, 17, both died at local trauma hospitals a few hours later. Their parents, Colin Campbell, and Gail Lerner, were seriously injured and taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, as was Packer, 33. The case against Packer has not yet been turned over to the District Attorney’s office and no charges have been filed yet against Packer. Nicole Packer has a conviction in 2012 for driving under the influence, and a conviction in 2016 for driving while her license was suspended for DUI.
