One person was killed and one was injured in a multi-vehicle collision near the bottom of the Morongo grade Thursday night. According to reports from the Desert Hot Springs police department, officers were dispatched to N. Indian Canyon just north of Mission Lakes Blvd. around 6 p.m. for a report of a multi-vehicle traffic collision. Investigators determined the 28-year-old male driver of a black Kia Rio was traveling eastbound on N. Indian Canyon with a 27-year-old female passenger. The 63-year-old male driver of a blue Dodge Dakota was traveling westbound on N. Indian Canyon. The driver of the Kia drove onto the dirt shoulder, attempted to correct the vehicle, and drove into the westbound traffic lane. The two vehicles collided head-on. The Morongo Valley Fire Department responded to assist with the incident. The female passenger in the Kia succumbed to her injuries on scene. The driver of the Kia was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive. The driver of the Dodge had complaints of pain and was evaluated on scene by medical personnel. N. Indian Canyon was closed until the investigation concluded at 11:30 p.m.
