Deputies have arrested one man and are searching for a second suspect in the theft of 11 vehicles from a residence in Twentynine Palms. Deputies were called the 2100 block of Pampas Avenue about 11:20 when the owners discovered that sometime between December 1 and Saturday, January 4, an unnamed suspect broke into the victim’s house and took all the registrations and keys for 11 vehicles, and then stole the vehicles, including two trailers. The victims located six vehicles and two trailers at two locations. Deputies determined that the unnamed suspect had sold all the vehicles, or was seen by others in possession of the stolen vehicles. Through investigation, deputies also determined that Ray Hewitt, 42, was involved with the vehicle thefts. Hewitt attempted to flee from deputies but was later apprehended. Two of the stolen vehicles were found on Hewitt’s property in the 70300 block of Indian Trail in Twentynine Palms. Ray Hewitt was arrested for investigation of burglary and on a felony warrant; he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $50,000. Deputies are seeking a warrant for the arrest of the other, unnamed suspect.
