1 ARREST, 8 CITATIONS, IN YUCCA VALLEY COMMUNITY DAY SCHOOL BROUHAHA

One juvenile was arrested, and 8 others were cited Tuesday following an incident Sheriff’s deputies called a “riot.” It started at 11:10 am when two students started fighting in class at the Yucca Valley Community Day School in the Green Building at Yucca Trail and Barberry Avenue. When Deputy Shaunna Ables and Detective Heidi Hague arrived, teachers said the students were out of control, throwing objects, including desks, and rushing the teachers in an aggressive manner. When the deputies removed the two students who had been fighting from the classroom, and stepped into the hall to talk to teachers, students inside the room slammed the door shut and locked it, and began vandalizing the classroom by knocking over bookshelves, throwing desks and chairs and trash cans. A teacher opened the door with a key and deputies regained control of the students. After investigation, one student was arrested on suspicion of assault, and eight others, ranging in age from 12 to 17, were arrested for their participation in the melee. No students, teachers, or deputies were injured. All the students were released to the custody of their parents.
