YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL APPROVES SHORT-TERM RENTAL CODE

Last night in Yucca Valley the Town Council amended their development code, adding an entirely new chapter. And with that action, a comprehensive set of requirements governing most every aspect of short-term vacation rentals in the town limits will go into effect in 30 days. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there…

The approved chapter on rentals of 30 days or less of permitted single-family and duplex units is the culmination of months of research, hearings, and deliberation first by the planning commission then by the town council. Also last night, the council reconsidered a decision from the last meeting to charge Hi-Desert Water District fair market value, or nearly $29,000, for a small piece of land on a town-owned easement at the park-and-ride on Kickapoo. The water district needs the parcel for a sewer project lift station. Town staff had recommended the property be transferred for a nominal $1. So following some discussion, the council, in a split vote, authorized sale at the town’s 1999 cost of just over $20,000. Mayor Abel and Councilmen Leone and Lombardo voted in favor; Mayor Pro Tem Denison and Councilman Drozd, opposed. The latter two had argued for the $1 nominal charge.

In other business, the town council authorized funds for design of improvements at Yucca Trail and Warren Vista, and on Onaga Trail between Grand Avenue and Acoma Trail.
