A Yucca Valley couple was arrested in La Quinta Friday after they were found passed out in a car with a five-year-old boy in the back seat. According to La Quinta police, officers were called to the Walmart parking lot on Highway 111 about 6:30 p.m. Friday for a man and woman sleeping in a car with a young boy. Temperatures at the time were well above 100 degrees. Inside the car were Jeremiah Fraser, 31, and Karina Townsend, 31, as well as Townsend’s 5-year-old son. Officers said Fraser was in possession of heroin and under the influence of a controlled substance; Townsend was under the influence of alcohol. Both were asleep due to their intoxication. Jeremiah Fraser was arrested for investigation of being under the influence of a controlled substance, child endangerment, and a probation violation. He was booked into the Indio Jail with his bail set at $75,000. Karina Townsend was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, booked into the Indio Jail, with her bail set at $35,000. Child Protective Services was called and took custody of the boy.
