A woman died following a T-bone crash in Morongo Valley Tuesday night. According to the CHP, the Morongo Valley woman, who has not been identified yet, was driving a red Toyota Corolla eastbound on Highway 62 when she collided with a black Toyota at park Avenue about 8:50 p.m. The woman fled the scene and continued eastbound on the highway to North Star Trail where she turned right. The CHP says she then made a U-turn on North Star Trail. About 9:20, she attempted to cross the highway and didn’t yield the right-of-way to a silver Jeep Commander that was traveling eastbound on the highway at about 60 miles per hour. The woman’s Toyota was T-boned by on the driver’s side by the Jeep. Both vehicles suffered significant damage; when rescue personnel arrived, they found the woman in the Toyota semi-conscious. She was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs where she later died. The family in the Jeep—a female driver, male passenger, and toddler—refused medical aid at the scene. After the second collision, an investigation determined the female driver of the Toyota Corolla to be under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
