The Annual Miss Yucca Valley Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by the Yucca Valley Rotary Club, will be held tomorrow evening at 6:00 at the Joshua Springs Thunderdome. Tickets are available at the door. Today we meet contestant Julia Martinez…..
Today we visit with Julia Martinez, a junior at Yucca Valley High School and candidate for Miss Yucca Valley. Who is the prominent woman you interviewed, and what did you learn from her?
“My prominent woman that I was blessed to interview was Melissa Kramer and I learned so much from her. She helped me realize that meeting new people and getting to know them isn’t so bad and as long as you’re happy and confident then your positive attitude will rub off on them as well. The most important thing she’s taught me was the importance that life goes on, so even with these bad times you’ll get through this and not only that but you’ll come out stronger than before. Always remember, life goes on.”
What have you learned from your experience with Miss Yucca Valley?
“My experience with Miss Yucca has taught me a lot about my relationships and how I have structured my own life. The book we read in Miss Yucca, ‘The 7 Habits of a Highly Effective Teen’ had one of the biggest affects on me. It helped me realize much of what I go through of life is because of how I have structured my own life and how I have acted towards others. I was constantly stressed about school and the book helped me organize my life better and doing quotes for Miss Yucca helped me get over the fear of public speaking and helped me connect with myself on a more deeper level. It helped me realize that I’m not alone in much of what I went through in life. Before this experience, I was nervous around other people and didn’t want to know them or even keep eye contact, so be able to actually keep eye contact with them be direct with them instead of just hiding away helped me realize how much I’ve missed out and enjoying my time with. It helped me learn I need to be more friendly and open to other people as well as them being to me. ”
Any final words?
“I just really hope that next year’s junior girls join in so they have the great experience I’ve gotten to experience this year. I mean, this entire experience will help you fix yourself as well as your structure and organization of your life. These girls will love doing it and honestly it is my favorite thing about Mondays.”
