A dangerous and loud vehicle fire on Twentynine Palms Highway this weekend was quickly extinguished by firefighters in Morongo Valley.
On Saturday afternoon (April 20) at around 5:50 p.m., a commercial truck caught fire near the intersection of Park Ave and Twentynine Palms Highway in Morongo Valley.
Crews from the Morongo Valley Fire Department responded to the scene, and determined that the cab of the truck was completely engulfed in flame threatening two nearby structures and surrounding vegetation. Fire crews – including a medic engine and a water tender arrived before the truck’s two diesel engines exploded escalating the situation.
Morongo Valley Fire crews were able to combat the fire with 3,500 gallons of water and foam, and were able to extinguish the fire by 6:15 p.m.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported, and the fire did not spread to nearby structures or vegetation. Assistance with clean-up and traffic efforts were provided by Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol, respectively. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
