Seven dogs died in a fire in Twentynine Palms Sunday afternoon. According to County Battalion Chief Dave Mahan, firefighters from Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, and the Combat Center were called to the fire about 2 p.m. in the 1500 block of Wilson Way. Mahan said an RV and a small outbuilding, believed to have been an original homestead, were fully involved when firefighters arrived. Firefighters mounted an aggressive exterior attack to keep the fire from spreading to the main house, but were unable to rescue the dogs inside the outbuilding. The owner arrived home about 2:50 p.m. and told a Sheriff’s deputy that she and the dogs lived in the old home while she remodeled the main house. There were no other injuries and the cause is under investigation.
