The Board was also introduced to Miss Yucca Valley 2020 and her court and recognized a group of eight students from La Contenta Middle School for receiving first place in the Mojave Water Agency’s 2020 Curiosity Quest Problem Solvers competition.

The 8th grade students had recently participated in the Mojave Water Agency’s Curiosity Quest Problem Solvers competition to develop and present a conceptual product to reduce water consumption. The students made three separate trips to Apple Valley for the competition, ultimately developing the idea for an in-home water conservation system that tracks water consumption and relays the information to a smart phone app. During the February 14 Water Summit in Victorville, the group was awarded first place in the contest, which included a $3,000 check for the school.
