Representatives from the Red Brennan Group joined the Z107.7 Up-Close Show last Friday (June 11) and discussed the continuation of the fight to get FP-5 repealed. Cassidy Taylor has the details…
FP-5 is a highly controversial fire service tax that was imposed in October of 2018. The $157 tax is paid by all property owners who live within the unincorporated portions of the county and according to Red Brennan Group representative Tom Murphy, the tax is illegal.
“For this tax to be implemented in accordance with California Constitution, it should have been implemented by a two-thirds vote at a regular election. That was never done.” – Tom Murphy, Red Brennan Group
And although Measure U, which sought to repeal the tax, failed in the 2020 election, the Red Brennan Group is not done fighting it. Natalie Zuk is currently collecting a goal of 14,000 signatures from residents who live within the FP-5 zone.
“If you reside in an unincorporated part of the county, Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley, Landers, Pioneertown, San Bernardino, Grand Terrace, you live within the FP-5 zone, which means you are being you’re paying this illegal tax” – Natalie Zuk, Red Brennan Group
