The County Coroner has released the name of a 72-year-old woman found dead in in a sinkhole at her property in Morongo Valley. Morongo Valley Fire Engineer Mark Murphy said the victim’s son had called for a welfare check on Margaret Pine, in the 50800 block of Canyon Road, shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday. He said he had not heard from her in several days. Firefighters arrived to find Pine at the bottom of a 10- to 15-foot sinkhole that had formed in a leach line from a septic system. Firefighters had to call in a heavy rescue engine from Fontana to lift her out. Margaret Pine was pronounced dead at the scene.
