MOJAVE DESERT LAND TRUST ACQUIRES MOJAVE RIVER RANCH

The Mojave Desert Land Trust in Joshua Tree announced Wednesday that it has acquired the Palisades Ranch on the Mojave River north of Victorville from the Western Rivers Conservancy. The Conservancy purchased the 1,647-acre ranch in 2016 from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which purchased it in 2010. Once slated for 1,300 homes and a golf course, the ranch is within a transition zone which includes important riparian habitat for 39 federally and state-protected wildlife species. The Mojave Desert Land Trust aims to restore this desert river ecosystem while also allowing public access. The ranch lies within a 30-minute drive for over 350,000 residents of the High Desert.
