An El Cajon man was arrested in Morongo Valley Thursday morning, accused of child endangerment. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were called to the intersection of Highway 62 and Fobes Road in Morongo Valley at about 8:30 a.m. for reports of a man with no shirt or shoes carrying a child in the middle of Twentynine Palms Highway in heavy traffic. Deputies responded, shutting down east- and west-bound traffic on Highway 62 before contacting Jason Wallace, 43, and safely escorting him and the 2-year-old child off of the highway. Wallace reportedly told deputies that his wife had been kidnapped, people were following him, and he needed to get away from them. The deputy determined that Wallace was under the influence of a controlled substance. The child was safely taken from Wallace and released to a family member through Child and Family Services. Jason Wallace was arrested for investigation of child endangerment and booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000.
