LITTLE INFORMATION RELEASED ABOUT COVID-19 CASES IN THE COUNTY

With 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Morongo Basin, we know relatively little about who is infected—not their ages, sex, underlying health conditions, and whether they have recovered, been moved to intensive care, or even died. San Bernardino County wasn’t even releasing the locations of positive cases until there were 100 confirmed cases in the county. California doesn’t require nursing or assistive care centers to release information about COVID-19 cases. News about positive cases at the Continuing Care Center in Joshua Tree leaked out from family members, and it was only when Z107.7 News contacted Tenet Healthcare, which runs the CCC, that staff released information about positive cases. As of Wednesday, 100 residents have been tested at the Continuing Care Center in Joshua Tree. Of those, nine have tested positive and two results are still pending.

But in Los Angeles County, the county has released the names of all nursing homes that have at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 since March.

Braswell’s Santa Fe Assisted Living in Yucca Valley refused to give any information to Z107.7 News.
