GLIDER LANDS OFF RUNWAY NEAR TWENTYNINE PALMS AIRPORT

Some Hi-Desert residents were surprised to find a glider plane on State Route 62 Sunday afternoon. Witnesses said what appeared to be a glider missed the runway and had a hard landing on the dirt next to the eastbound lane near the Twentynine Palms Airport at about 2:30 p.m.

While both the Sheriff’s Department and County Fire said they had not been notified, photos were taken of the incident. The pictures show the plane on the ground near the highway, then on the highway being moved.
