COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE TO GET PART OF $100 MILLION DONATION

The Jay Pritzker Foundation has donated $100 million to the California Community College system, and some of that money will end up at Copper Mountain College. Hilary Sloane has more information…

Copper Mountain College is one of 34 community colleges in California whose students will benefit from the largest donation ever given to the community college system. Officials at the Jay Pritzker Foundation said the donation is in recognition of the role that community colleges play in educating Californians and preparing them for the workforce. The donation will fund scholarships for students who are well on their way to completing a certificate or degree at a community college or in the process of transferring to a four-year institution, as well as emergency financial aid for students experiencing unexpected financial hardship.

For the first five years, the donation will provide grants to 34 community colleges in the three regions in the state with the lowest percentage of adults with college degrees: the Inland Empire, including Copper Mountain College, the Central Valley, and the Far North.

More information will be released at a later date on student eligibility, the process of applying and granting the funds, and timing.
