The 29 Palms Art Gallery will present a special exhibit that focuses on contemporary Native American art. The exhibit, Sand to Stone: Contemporary Native American Art in Joshua Tree, will feature art by Lewis de Soto, Cara Romero, and Gerald Clarke Junior, with an art installation by de Soto at Joshua Tree National Park’s Oasis Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms. The exhibit opens at the art gallery April 27 and runs through May 22. De Soto’s site-specific art at the Oasis Visitor Center will open May 7. An opening reception, panel discussion, and special performance of bird singers will be held at the art gallery Saturday, May 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Sand to Stone art project is a collaboration between the art gallery and Joshua Tree National Park.
