This week, a new billboard appeared on Highway 62 in Joshua Tree in the same space used by Congressional candidate Tim Donnelly to attack military spending for transgender veterans. Many Morongo Basin residents saw the billboard as attacking transgender veterans and decided to do show their support for those who have gone through or are going through transition. Neighbors talked to neighbors and raised enough money to put up their own billboard message.
The billboard reads:
“Transgender people
deserve health care – support
justice – safety – love.”
In a statement, the group said, “Out here in this desert, we love our neighbors. And we won’t let some politician come through and try to divide us. To our transgender neighbors and visitors, let us be clear: You are valued and you are welcome here.”
