A small plane crashed in a canyon near Morongo Valley last night and one lane of Highway 62 has been closed while the plane is being removed. A Caltrans spokeswoman says the wreckage was located around 9 p.m. about 600 feet north of Highway 62 near the San Bernardino-Riverside county border. The right lane of westbound Highway 62 will be closed between Hess Boulevard and Indian Canyon during the recovery. It’s not known if there was anyone else inside the plane besides the pilot and there is no word on the pilot’s condition. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and the National Transportation Safety Board is en route to the crash scene.
