71-YEAR-OLD TASED AND ARRESTED AFTER THREATENING STORE CLERK

A Yucca Valley man who allegedly threatened a store clerk after stealing beer was arrested Monday afternoon. According to a Sheriff’s report, Dewey Wood, 71, went to the Dollar General store in the 55500 block of 29 Palms Highway about 11 a.m. and walked out with a 12-pack of beer without paying for it. The clerk told Sheriff’s deputies that Dewey returned to the store and told her he should punch her in the face, and that he had a gun and wasn’t afraid to use it. Other shoppers in the store also said they heard him make other threats to the clerk. Deputies located Wood at a nearby mobile home park, where he fought with them when they tried to detain him, leading them to shoot him with a taser. Dewey Wood was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center, after which he was arrested for investigation of making criminal threats, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000.
